Lebkuchen (or Pfefferkuchen) is a traditional German baked Christmas treat, somewhat resembling gingerbread.

Nürnberger Lebkuchen is a protected designation of origin for gingerbread from Nuremberg, since 1 July 1996 as a protected geographical indication (PGI) is recognised under European law. Accordingly, such Gingerbread may only be offered as "Nürnberger Lebkuchen" on the territory of the city of Nuremberg were prepared.
